What makes working at Detica different? At Detica you will be noticed, valued and recognised as an individual. We don't do 'routine' — our projects are complex, intellectually challenging and business critical to our clients (FTSE100 corporations and UK government departments and agencies). From the outset, you will typically be working alongside your client where your opinions and input are valued. As a consultant, you will gain experience across a range of projects, using technical and business skills and in all cases ensuring early responsibility. Our training is tailored to meet your individual needs and our team-oriented focus means you will work with supportive colleagues, ensuring knowledge and learning is shared. The choice of career paths open to you is flexible. You can aim to become a technical guru, commercial go-getter and plenty more besides. It is up to you what you want to achieve. There is no prescribed way of doing things here — you are given the freedom to use your initiative and creativity to achieve your own career aspirations.
We accept applications and interview all year round — and you can start with us in almost any month you like during the year. We are also happy to discuss deferred start dates.
What does a Detica consultant do? Adding value to projects very quickly, you will be involved in one or more of the following streams, ensuring ongoing variety and learning: delivery management, operations management, business consulting, technology consulting, systems delivery and integration, data management and analytics, electronic systems engineering. During your career at Detica, you will have the opportunity to work for a variety of clients in our target markets. We recruit graduates to join our electronic system engineering team which creates the hardware, firmware and embedded software required to deliver leading edge system engineering solutions to our clients.
How many places do you have and would I get a job at Detica? We have around 100 graduate places, across our consultancy and engineering streams. We only recruit outstanding graduates and postgraduates from numerate and problem-solving backgrounds. Our requirements are: minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a numerate discipline; at least 320 UCAS points (or their equivalents); excellent communication and team-working skills and commercial awareness. If you fit this description, you have every chance of getting a job at Detica.
I want to continue learning — what training do you provide? You will benefit from our strong commitment to training and development from your initial induction training and throughout your career. Many graduates will get the opportunity to attend one of our London-based academies — one focusing on data analytics, the other on Java development. Each lasting four weeks, the respective academies give you new skills though a mixture of tutorials and live project work. Our graduate induction programme is designed to help you establish the technical, commercial and managerial skills you will need to develop your career at Detica. If you choose to gain further formal qualifications we may support you in this (where it is clear it will benefit both you and Detica).
I'm ambitious — how would you manage my career progression? From your first day, you will have a Career Mentor who will help you manage your career progression. Your regular review meetings mean you will be rewarded and promoted on the basis of your achievements — how quickly you progress is really down to you! You will be able to choose your preferred career path once you have experienced a range of business and technology consulting projects.
Money isn't my key driver, but it is important! How will I be rewarded? We regularly benchmark our salaries and benefits and offer one of the best packages in our industry. Our starting salaries for graduates and postgraduates range from £27,000 to £29,000. Our benefits include a discretionary annual performance related bonus, £2,000 interest free graduate loan, £1,000 expensed relocation costs, pension scheme, share incentive plan, 25 days holiday, travel insurance, season ticket loan, life assurance, private medical insurance and salary income protection. In addition, extra benefits can be purchased through our flexible benefit system that aims to meet your individual needs and to give you control over the benefits you receive as your situation changes over time.
Where will I work and how much travel is involved? Most of our work is carried out at clients' premises, although you will be based out of our Guildford, London or Gloucester offices. Many of our clients are based in London and the South East, so much of our work is commutable on a daily basis. We do, however, increasingly have projects further afield, so it is important to be flexible to travel and work away from home during the week when necessary. If you join the engineering part of our business, whilst you will need to travel, there is typically less need to spend time away from home during the week.
So is it all work, work, work? We value the fact that our people have a life outside of work. There are many social activities that we organise throughout the year, some of them formal and some less so. We have our annual dinner dance to which the whole company and a partner/friend are invited. We also have a more informal family day in the summer. The Sports and Social Committee, made up of employees across the company, organises a whole host of subsidised clubs and activities including (but not limited to) football, badminton, climbing and cinema trips. If you join us and have a particular hobby or event you wish to introduce to us then all the better!
Where can I meet you to find out more? We work closely with UK universities and run a number of events. These are great opportunities for you to hear what a career at Detica can offer you. For information about forthcoming graduate events at universities across the UK.
We accept applications all year round and you can start with us in almost any month. To apply, you will need to answer a small number of questions online, and then upload your CV. If successful at this stage, you will be invited to a first interview, typically lasting around an hour. The next stage is a more in depth interview, in which you will be asked to prepare a presentation typically on a university project or relevant work experience. You will also be asked to answer questions on a written case study. Feedback on your interview performance is provided shortly after. |
