New bespoke digital radio receivers for submarine fleet.
Detica, the specialist IT consultancy, has successfully delivered a £750,000 contract for VT Communications to provide the Swedish Navy with new bespoke digital radio receivers as part of the encrypted communications network across its submarine fleet. Designed and built by Detica, the new receivers have now been handed over for installation by the Swedish Navy's technical staff with Detica providing on-going training and support.
Using leading-edge signal processing technology, the new digital receivers allow the submarines to remain submerged underwater while receiving messages, even when thousands of miles from home. They offer vastly improved reception capabilities for secure communications despite being smaller and lighter than their predecessors.
The Detica contract, won in association with prime contractor VT Communications, follows work the two companies have done with the British Royal Navy fleet and the success of this project was a key factor in winning the Swedish contract. Detica will work closely with Swedish naval technicians over the coming months to provide detailed training in the systems, as well as long-term ongoing support.
Commenting on the deal, Kevin Cawood, Deputy Managing Director at VT Communicatios, says: "The new receivers perform significantly better over long distance ranges and are also 'ruggedised' to withstand rough conditions. They're very resilient, with a 27 year expected lifespan, so we have high confidence in their performance which is vital."
Quentin Vaughan, of Detica, adds: "We have been working in the national security arena for over 30 years. This contract was secured on Detica's reputation as a leading player in military intelligence and communications consultancy."
