Corporate social responsibility

Our environment
We recognise we have a responsibility to act in a way that respects the environment. We promote environmental awareness among staff and seek their active participation in minimising the environmental impact of our operations. We consider the life-cycle environmental effects of investment in premises and equipment. We seek to conserve energy and natural resources by minimising waste, recycling where possible and by maximising our use of renewable resources. Further details are included on page 22 of our
latest annual report

Charity of the year
This year we have chosen The Prince's Trust as our charity of the year. As part of our involvement with the Prince's Trust, we have launched the Enterprise Project. The project challenges three teams of employees to run an event or activity that raises a minimum of £5,000 — so in total the projects will raise at least £15,000. Detica is also a member of the Prince's Trust Technology Leadership Group (TLG).

UK Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise brings volunteers from business into the classroom to work with teachers and students to develop skills and capabilities for business and enterprise. Our involvement provides an opportunity for any Detica employee to become a Young Enterprise volunteer. We currently have 40 volunteers in London, Surrey and Gloucestershire who have volunteered for over 50 working days.

UK Microsoft Challenge
Three teams of employees entered the UK Microsoft Challenge this year and have already raised over £18,000 for the NSPCC.

Give-As-You-Earn (GAYE)
We operate a GAYE scheme which enables our staff to contribute in a tax-effective manner to charities via deductions at source from payroll. Our charity of the year is supported as well as a number of smaller local charities benefiting too.
